This tutorial is intended for PHP programmers who want to get a quick start on parsing XML and “getting the data out”. Experience with PHP4 and familiarity with XML syntax are assumed.
The perfect analogy to the US (hen), France (rat), Germany (goose), Russia (cat) and special guest star, Iraq (as the bread).
There once was a little red hen. One day she found a grain of wheat.
“Who will plant this?” she asked.
“Not I,” said the cat.
“Not I,” said the goose.
“Not I,” said the rat.
“Then I will,” said Little Red Hen.

The reason my XML/XSL/Java doesn’t work
Among the features Internet Explorer provides for handling XML data is one that lets it open an XML data file on a web site and display the content in a browser window. However, the flaw makes it possible for the web site to instead open an XML file on a remote system in the browser window. Specifically, the feature at issue here checks to make sure that the web page requests a data source that resides on the same web site, but doesn’t check to make sure that the data source isn’t redirected.
So after spending half the damned day figuring out how to make it… it didn’t work on the server. Why? Well I spent the OTHER half of the day and finally came across this… well, if you do as it says, you can take a gander at this and see what I spent the first half of the day on.
the page is trying to violate the default security policy by accessing an external data source. Personally, I dont see why they’ve set access to external data sources as “Disabled” in all zones - Intranet zone I can understand, but in theory when you’re accessing anything on the Internet then its “external” to you, so why should it matter which site some of it is being pulled from? … if you set your client to either “Prompt” or “Enable” for external data sources
After spending the weekend working on web crap… this was a welcome break:
Broken Newz - Criterion to Release Director’s Cut of Saddam’s 1968 Gay Porn Debut
Kuwait City - With the discovery of a print of Saddam Hussein’s long-lost 1968 gay porn film debut entitled “La’iba al-Waladaani” (”The Two Boys Played”), film archivists from Criterion have rushed into production a DVD featuring the director’s cut of the film along with a special commentary track recorded by former Iraqi Prime Minister Tariq Aziz.
Frankly, I think it’s starting to look pretty damned good!
http://noahgrey.com/greysoft/ Greymatter is a *powerful* tool, and now that I am learning to manipulate it as it was intended, I am amazed! This entire page is basically built within the Greymatter engine, using segments of html and css that are assembled by Greymatter whenever a new entry is added.
The older information (http://www.underlight.com Underlight, and parts of the AC information) is still in the old html format, so if something doesn’t work in your browser, it’s a limitation of older technology. As time permits, I’ll take a look at updating some of that to take advantage of newer ways of getting the job done.
I am currently using a script from DAoC http://daoc.catacombs.com/index.cfm Catacombs to display server information… so my next job is to learn to mangle the XML information on my own. The list works, as it is, but I think the display could be gussied up a little.
