Feeling “green”, don’t waste your money

Looks like Al Gore’s little scam is already starting to show it’s corrupt underbelly.

FT.com / In depth – Industry caught in carbon ‘smokescreen’

â–  Widespread instances of people and organisations buying worthless credits that do not yield any reductions in carbon emissions.

■ Industrial companies profiting from doing very little – or from gaining carbon credits on the basis of efficiency gains from which they have already benefited substantially.

â–  Brokers providing services of questionable or no value.

â–  A shortage of verification, making it difficult for buyers to assess the true value of carbon credits.

â–  Companies and individuals being charged over the odds for the private purchase of European Union carbon permits that have plummeted in value because they do not result in emissions cuts.

Remember folks, if it looks like bullshit and smells like bullshit, it’s most likely bullshit.

“Carpet Chewing, Book Burning Moppet with Shit for Brains”

I want to adopt this guy as my new dad… sure, he’s a Brit, but that’s OK after watching this little video:

Pay attention at around 3:55 for the money quote (I used it for the title of this post). Definitely worth the price of admission.

Thanks to Atlas for the link to this one!

Minor Footnote: What took them so long?

Law.com – Civil Rights Lawyer Lynne Stewart Is Disbarred for Conviction in Terror Aid Case

A civil rights lawyer convicted of helping an imprisoned terrorist sheik communicate with his disciples was disbarred Tuesday.

The New York Supreme Court’s Appellate Division denied Lynne Stewart’s request to voluntarily resign from the practice of law.

Once in awhile the system gets something right. This bitch being disbarred is one of those times. Liberal lawyers standing in defense of our enemies because they’re “entitled to representation” is one thing — but aiding and abetting the criminal acts of their clients is another thing altogether. Ms. Stewart is an accomplice to terrorism, and deserves the harshest treatment available to those of her ilk.

“I Do Not Like to Hear Good News”

An awesome parody playing on Dr. Seuss and Harry Reid’s silliness. With Marines, Obama, and Llamas worked in for good riddance.

Devil Dog, South-Of-The-Border style!

Awhile back, a Guatemalan Sgt I work with commented on the large number (percentage-wise) of Hispanic men and women in the Marine Corps. We never did conclude why this was, but I think I found the answer… Check this video! And he’s patriotic, too! (notice the jacket)

Happy Earth Day!

Sick of all the pseudo-science being thrown at you to convince you’re a bad person? Tired of seeing Al Gore propped up as someone important while he makes money from the biggest scam of the modern age? So am I… here’s a powerful video with real scientists explaining why, while the climate may be changing, it’s not your fault:

It’s well over an hour long, and time well spent – refreshing and enlightening without the fear-mongering.

Oh yes, and it helps to explain why the scam in the first place… Al Gore is either a sucker of humongous proportion, or a willing participant in the scam. I tend to believe he’s a “useful idiot”, but he may well be an evil asshole. Hard to tell with the permanent stick up his ass.

Notable personalities in this film: Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace, Professor John Christy, Lead author, IPCC (the UN organization often cited to justify the GW panic), and more intelligent people far more believable than Al Gore or even Bono (gasp!).\

I just finished watching these… enjoy!

How to get noticed by Google:

Like many others, I subscribe to “google alerts” to see when JonathanMurray.com is mentioned on the web… it’s not often, so I’m not exactly overwhelmed. Usually it’s links from blog listing services, message boards I’ve written on, or trackbacks from other blogs.

Today I was greeted with a surprise entry… google seems to have indexed an entry I wrote as “alert worthy”.

Is it one of my interesting posts regarding islamic terrorists up to their dirty tricks? No.

Is it a post regarding the idiocy of the dummocrats? No.

Is it the one time I’ve mentioned idiots who happen to be christian? You betcha.

Funny.

And not in the humorous way.

Update! THIS POST GOT NOTICED, TOO! (the irony is almost too much to bear)

Offensive Meat?

The case of the hateful ham

LEWISTON – One student has been suspended and more disciplinary action could follow a possible hate crime at Lewiston Middle School, Superintendent Leon Levesque said Wednesday.

On April 11, a white student placed a ham steak in a bag on a lunch table where Somali students were eating. Muslims consider pork unclean and offensive.

Amazing.

Placing ham where Muslim students were eating was “an awful thing,” said Stephen Wessler, executive director of the Center for Prevention of Hate Violence. “It’s extraordinarily hurtful and degrading” to Muslims, whose religion prohibits them from being around ham. It’s important to respond swiftly, Wessler said.

Dragging dead soldiers behind vehicles is “extremely hurtful and degrading”. Showing someone your lunch is not.

I think we should all start wearing our pork chop hats everyday, not just on Sunday. Here’s a sample for the style-conscious among you.

Phelps’ fanatics are at it again…

Extremist Christians working to prove they can be every bit as ignorant, fanatical, and hate-mongering as their islamic competitors…

Hate Group To Protest At Student’s Funeral

APRIL 20–The reactionary religious group that has staged protests at funerals for soldiers killed in Iraq plans to picket at tomorrow’s funeral for one of the victims of the Virginia Tech massacre. The Westboro Baptist Church–which operates the godhatesfags.com web site–announced its plans to protest at student Ryan Clark’s funeral in a press release (a copy of which you’ll find below). Clark, 22, was a biology and English major who reportedly was trying to shield others when he was shot Monday by Seung-Hui Cho.

How long till Phreddy Phelps starts sending his parishioners into crowded marketplaces with explosives tied to their chests? I sure hope someone is assigned to watch them for signs of this sort of activity.

Freedom of religion doesn’t include unbridled freedom to offend… sorry, Phreddy. Go back and rattle ‘dem bones in your cave, where no one has to see or hear your insanity.

And people wonder why I don’t embrace religion (or more precisely, religious people!)

Real Espresso?

I’ve decided to break down and acquire a new, “real” espresso machine – I’ve been using a steam-driven Krups model for some time, but to be honest, it just makes good, strong coffee…

Now I’m looking around for that ever elusive combination of good quality machine and affordable price. I’ve been scouring the web for reviews, recommendations, opinions, praise, and criticism – and there’s plenty. Too bad very little of it was written in the last year.

So I’m taking a chance that you may have some experience in this area. Do you have an espresso maker? I’m looking for the “pump” variety, semi-automatic, and relatively affordable ($300 being about as much as I can dream of spending…). I don’t want some plastic piece of crap that’ll fall apart after a few months of daily use, and since it seems to be a common option, I’d like one that works with both my grind and the “pods”.

There are a few that meet these basic criteria – but all have mixed reviews, depending on where you look and whom you trust. Here are some of those I have seen, but feel free to recommend another if I missed a good one. I’d love to hear your feedback on any of these you have experience with:

(Note: I’ve looked at several similar models to these by the same manufacturers, these are the ones I tagged most recently)

Krups XP4050
Gaggia 35008 Carezza Espresso Machine
Delonghi BAR32/42

and… I’ll add to this list as I come across them… I notably do not want a Nespresso, or any other machine that requires proprietary, pre-packaged coffee to use.

Currently leaning towards the Gaggia models – “Espresso“, “Espresso Deluxe“, and the “Coffee“. Probably going to buy within the next few days… so if you have advice/experience, speak up, please!

Prosecutors Drop Charges in Duke Case

And I don’t even like Lacrosse.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Prosecutors dropped all charges Wednesday against the three Duke lacrosse players accused of sexually assaulting a stripper at a party, saying the athletes were innocent victims of a “tragic rush to accuse” by an overreaching district attorney.

Now let’s hope that bastard Nifong gets what he’s earned, too.

The North Carolina State Bar charged Nifong with making misleading and inflammatory comments about the athletes under suspicion. It later added more serious offenses of withholding evidence from defense attorneys and lying to the court and bar investigators. He stands trial on those charges in June.

Previous. Also.

Why are we expected to feel sorry for this man?

Man with tuberculosis jailed for not wearing mask – CNN.com

This reads like your typical “wronged person deserves sympathy” prose…

PHOENIX, Arizona (AP) — Behind the county hospital’s tall cinderblock walls, a 27-year-old tuberculosis patient who spent years living in Russia sits in a jail cell equipped with a ventilation system that keeps germs from escaping.

Robert Daniels has been locked up indefinitely, perhaps for the rest of his life, since last July. But he has not been charged with a crime. Instead, he suffers from an extensively drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis, or XDR-TB. It is considered virtually untreatable.

County health authorities obtained a court order to lock him up as a danger to the public because he failed to take precautions to avoid infecting others. Specifically, he said he did not heed doctors’ instructions to wear a mask in public.

“I’m being treated worse than an inmate,” Daniels said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press last month. “I’m all alone. Four walls. Even the door to my room has been locked. I haven’t seen my reflection in months.”

I’m sure he did nothing to bring on the loss of privileges, right? Act like a criminal, get treated like a criminal… where’s the mystery here?

Though Daniels’ confinement is extremely rare, health experts say it is a situation that U.S. public health officials may have to confront more and more because of the spread of drug-resistant TB and the emergence of diseases such as SARS and avian flu in this increasingly interconnected world.

But why would I feel sorry for someone carrying a killer disease who won’t even take precautions to protect his fellow man? Similar to the way AIDS carriers can be charged and punished for various forms of murder for infecting others, this man is a leaking biological weapon – he doesn’t need to consciously infect someone, he need merely come into contact with a vulnerable person.

“It’s very uncommon that someone would both not want to take treatment and will willingly put others at risk,” England said. “It’s only those very uncommon incidents where we have to use legal authority through the courts to isolate somebody.”
[...]
Daniels said he realizes now that he endangered the public. But “I thought I’d come to a country where I’d finally be treated like a person, and bam, here I am.”

What a moron. He “realizes” he endangered others’ lives, but he expected not to be held accountable? Box him up and ship him back to mother Russia. I’ll kick in for the postage.

Sorry, Bobby – terrible shame you have to have this disease – but that you’d care so little about everyone else tells me you deserve where you are. Locked away.

When dumb old guys hire ignorant young guys to create their web pages…

Hilarity ensues:

Visitors to Sen. John McCain’s MySpace page might have been surprised at the presidential candidate’s sudden turnaround in some of his views Tuesday.

The senator was the victim of a prank that had his Web page stating that he had changed his mind and come out in favor of gay marriage, as well as stating a bias toward attractive lesbians.

Mike Davidson, CEO of the online news site Newsvine, is taking responsibility — or more like full credit — for tampering with McCain’s site. And he said it’s a bit of cyber payback.

Davidson said he designed the MySpace template that was used for McCain’s MySpace page and that McCain’s camp didn’t credit him for the template as requested. He also charged that they’re using his images and are pulling images directly from his server so that every time a McCain MySpace page is loaded on someone’s machine, his bandwidth is being used.

“About 20 minutes ago, I single-handedly changed John McCain’s opinion on gay marriage, at least as far as his MySpace page goes,” Davidson wrote in a Tuesday blog post titled, “Hacking a More Tasteful John McCain.”

A message under McCain’s picture was changed to read: “Today I announce that I have reversed my position and come out in full support of gay marriage particularly marriage between passionate females.”

The fraudulent information reportedly was up on McCain’s site for about an hour.

I’d like to hope the kid writing McCain’s “myspace” page got a sound spanking and no dinner… Let’s be realistic, Johnny… adults don’t use myspace, and the 14-year-old audience can’t vote. Stop wasting your time trying to appear “cool”.

Please don’t offend the animals, either.

Not long ago, we were afraid of agitating the animals.

Now, apparently, it’s gone even further: Some schools aren’t going to teach history, lest they contradict the animals religious teachings.

Schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils, a Government backed study has revealed.

It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial.

So they deny history by not teaching it, because certain warped segments of society deny it and might be offended otherwise? What kind of sick, circular logic is this?

There is also resistance to tackling the 11th century Crusades – where Christians fought Muslim armies for control of Jerusalem – because lessons often contradict what is taught in local mosques.

Tell me again how the terrorists aren’t winning? They’re kicking ass in the British school system.

The report concluded: “In particular settings, teachers of history are unwilling to challenge highly contentious or charged versions of history in which pupils are steeped at home, in their community or in a place of worship.”

Brainwashing children, at home or church, remains the most effective way to perpetuate ignorance… yay, radical British muslims. Well on your way to return the world to the dark ages, when no one realized you were ignorant, violent animals… because everyone was an ignorant, violent animal.
