Slogans

Hey, even Madison Avenue gets it right, sometimes!

The Few, The Proud, The Marines slogan wins

MARINE CORPS RECRUITING COMMAND, QUANTICO, Va. — Madison Avenue’s Advertising Walk of Fame now has a new member in its ranks. “The Few. The Proud. The Marines.” will be forever enshrined on the famed walk, the announcement, Sept. 26, was done during Advertising Week 2007, held in New York.

Advertising Week, the largest and most prestigious annual gathering of advertising and media industry leaders in North America, has named the United States Marine Corps an inductee to the “Walk of Fame” for advertising slogans. Voting took place via the World Wide Web Aug. 28 through Sept. 25.

“This slogan reflects the unique character of the Marine Corps and underscores the high caliber of those who join and serve their country as Marines,” said Maj. Gen. Richard T. Tryon, commanding general, Marine Corps Recruiting Command. “Such recognition reaffirms the special relationship we have with the American public.”

“The Marine Corps is proud to receive this prestigious recognition. This award not only celebrates the slogan “The Few. The Proud. The Marines.,” it also is an opportunity to recognize the men and women who serve our country around the world as U.S. Marines,” said Lt. Col. Mike Zeliff, assistant chief of staff, advertising, Marine Corps Recruiting Command.

We recognize the extended Marine Corps family—former Marines, family and friends—who took the time to vote to help the Marine Corps receive this award, Zeliff added.

“During this celebration, we remember our Marines deployed around the world, their friends and families and our partnerships with agencies like J. Walter Thompson, who help the Marine Corps succeed in protecting our nation,” Zeliff said. Our heartfelt thanks for voting “The Few. The Proud. The Marines.” into history as an inductee into the Madison Avenue Advertising Walk of Fame.

Congratulations, Al – you big, dumb, fake.

How many holes in Al’s little Powerpoint presentation have to be punched before the whole thing collapses around his ears? Why is the “settled science” of man-induced global warming being challenged by more and more of the leading scientists in the world?

Why is big dumb Al so interested in scaring you into buying make-believe credits from companies he helped to create (and likely profits from heavily)?

Money, of course. Big dumb Al wants yours. And he wants to “be somebody”, of course… his political failures have turned the ego maniac that is Al Gore into a monster of another kind — with the liberal media (and the Norwegians) firmly at his back. What a sad, sad in-duh-vidual.

Gore gets a cold shoulder

ONE of the world’s foremost meteorologists has called the theory that helped Al Gore share the Nobel Peace Prize “ridiculous” and the product of “people who don’t understand how the atmosphere works”.

Dr William Gray, a pioneer in the science of seasonal hurricane forecasts, told a packed lecture hall at the University of North Carolina that humans were not responsible for the warming of the earth.

His comments came on the same day that the Nobel committee honoured Mr Gore for his work in support of the link between humans and global warming.

“We’re brainwashing our children,” said Dr Gray, 78, a long-time professor at Colorado State University. “They’re going to the Gore movie [An Inconvenient Truth] and being fed all this. It’s ridiculous.”

Making the completely stupid sound perfectly plausible?

I’ve often been amazed at the ability of seemingly reasonable people arriving at obviously stupid conclusions. Especially those whose educational credentials should allow them to know better. Consider the “911 scholars for truth” (website not linked, as I won’t waste my time to find it), and useful idiots like Rosie O’Donnell (spelling? I’m also not going to look that up) who say things like “fire doesn’t melt steel“, and “our own government did it”.

Well, now I’ve seen the light. No, I haven’t bought into their ignorance, I just realize now how artfully such people are manipulated into their completely ignorant, hurtful and often despicable beliefs. From the clever minds at “Debunking 911 conspiracies“, I am pleased to present:

Uncomfortable Questions: Was the Death Star Attack an Inside Job?

We’ve all heard the “official conspiracy theory” of the Death Star attack. We all know about Luke Skywalker and his ragtag bunch of rebels, how they mounted a foolhardy attack on the most powerful, well-defended battle station ever built. And we’ve all seen the video over, and over, and over, of the one-in-a-million shot that resulted in a massive chain reaction that not just damaged, but completely obliterated that massive technological wonder.

Wordpress 2.3

Wordpress 2.3 was released a few weeks ago. I was waiting for the software manager my ISP uses to offer it as an option, but that never happened… happily the manual upgrade was as simple as ever, so I ran some backups and made the move to the upgrade. I am continuously impressed and amazed by the improvements the community puts into this free software.

Thanks folks!

“True patriotism requires far more”

I just saw this while browsing through “The Jawa Report“… never would have seen it otherwise, as I am not a fan of CNN. For the record, I wear a flag pin on my collar every work day (I don’t tend to wear collared shirts any other day), and have for years. I think Lou Dobbs nailed this one:

Wanna-be Commanders in Chief: Condemn Rush, but not Moveon?

Perfect reason to dismiss Hillary and Barack:

SENATE DEMOCRATS CONDEMN LIMBAUGH’S ATTACK ON OUR TROOPS

” Thousands of active troops and veterans were subjected to Mr. Limbaugh’s unpatriotic and indefensible comments on your broadcast. We trust you will agree that not a single one of our sons, daughters, neighbors and friends serving overseas is a “phony soldier.” We call on you to publicly repudiate these comments that call into question their service and sacrifice and to ask Mr. Limbaugh to apologize for his comments.”

Signed by Clinton and Obama, among a detestable host of others.

Senate Votes to Condemn MoveOn for Ad Attacking General Petraeus

The amendment did not specifically name MoveOn.org, but expressed “the sense of the Senate that General David H. Petraeus, commanding general, Multi-National Force-Iraq, deserves the full support of the Senate and strongly condemn(s) personal attacks on the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all members of the United States Armed Forces.”

Signed “NO” by Hillary; Barack was conveniently not available to vote.

Let’s get it straight: Limbaugh is a popular talk show host with an audience made up primarily of his supporters. He made a verbal foul-up when talking about the losers posing as soldiers to gain credibility when they denigrate the President, the military, and the Iraq war. I don’t have his quote, but I have heard enough of him to know he wouldn’t intentionally badmouth our military.(I found and read the quote) The morons in the US Senate know that, too. Taken by itself, the quote would be insulting. Taken in the context of the speaker (Rush), everyone knows better.

MoveOn took out a full page ad in a world-wide published newspaper insinuating that a highly decorated US General would betray his country in his testimony to Congress.

Does anyone seriously believe this is the proper behavior of potential Commanders-In-Chief?

Please.

Meanwhile, my job suffers because the combined efforts of the Democrat led congress could not send a budget to the President before October 1st.

Nice way to prioritize your efforts, kids. Harry, Nancy… get off your posturing asses and do something productive. Hillary, Barack? Just go away.
