Today, among other things, I am thankful for the gmail SPAM filter.

ADDENDUM.  I just ran across a new (to me!) feature of GMAIL!  When I hit the “mark as SPAM” button, a popup offered to “attempt to unsubscribe.”  Very cool.  Maybe it’ll even work.

The following is a sample of some recent missives received via my contact page.  They serve to exemplify my opinion of the type of person interested in such things.

Addendum:  While looking up links to be helpful, I came across the page these maroons must have thought they were on.  The similarities between their contact page and mine are uncanny, to be sure.  How could I be so callous?

Lately, I’ve been getting spammed from a mailing list that I did not recognize, and as is the norm for poorly operated and maintained mailing lists, further spammed by morons hitting “reply to all” and requesting to “unsubscribe.”  To add insult to mental injury, the spam from the list contained NO information regarding the game, other than to say, “Here’s a mailing list for suckers who provided us their email address but haven’t been selected to actually play the game.”  Kind of a sick joke, but my dark side gets it.

None of the emails I’ve received contained instructions to unsubscribe.   I assume that “feature” uses a specialized address to handle such functions; I recall one list I used years ago that appended -unsubscribe to the actual address.  I guess it is my civic duty to crack this nut and… spam the list with the information.  Heh.

A hundred or so ignorant “reply to all” messages later (thanks google, for merging them into blocks (‘threads’) instead of feeding them all to me in-duh-vidually!) and I decided to track down the original site in order to manage my subscriptions to this mailing list.  No such luck.  The system doesn’t recognize my email address as registered.  So obviously it cannot be sending me email.  But it is.  Or am I imagining it all?

*sigh*

Recently, the DoD acknowledged that cyber attacks are acts of war.

The DoN can’t properly manage a mailing list.

We’re doomed.

I find it somewhat amazing, but mostly disgusting that some people are so willing to give up their minds, their will, and their lives to follow a charismatic* asshole with a messiah complex.  It’s even more unbelievable in this modern day of free flowing information that otherwise normal, intelligent people can’t see the same pattern being played out again and again.  Isolation, restriction, declaration that the leader is “god” and infallible, and almost inevitably, sex with the followers.

The saddest part is that while the “followers” generally consider themselves ultra-religious, the “leader” is the ultimate atheist.  He has to be an atheist, because if he had any real beliefs in an almighty, he’s know for sure he was pissing off that god (those gods, whatever).

I suppose he could be a believer in the Roman god Bacchus.  That way as long as alcohol is involved, anything goes.

As a public service, I hereby offer this message to those under the control of “religious leaders” who may or may not realize they’re in a cult:

STOP BEING SO FUCKING STUPID.

* I don’t get how these people are “charismatic”, they’re mostly just disgusting.  But hey, people claim Hitler was charismatic, and he was nothing but a diminutive troll with a screechy voice who appeared constantly on the verge of a heart attack.

I’ve long questioned the logic of turning food crops into (heavily subsidized) fuel for cars, but now we’ve taken a step that I don’t think I would ever have imagined.  We’re turning food crops into CAT LITTER.

The company is even giving it away (in the form of a rebate).

I can’t decide whether to be shocked, sickened, or amused.

I think I have decided that this is how I’ll do my part to help correct the overpopulation of third world countries that breed terrorists.  That sounds like a horrible thing to say, and I’m sure many will think horribly of me because I said it, but let’s face it;  When you have so many hungry mouths that you eagerly strap bombs on kids and send them off to murder in the name of your cult, population control is in order.  I’m going to start doing my part to resolve that problem for them.

Every little effort can help, right?
