Dragging the ignorant, kicking and screaming, into the 21st century, democracy, and personal responsibility

Baghdad Burning

I came across a link to this blog tonight while browsing through http://www.blogclicker.com/index.php?referer=JonathanMurray BlogClicker.

First off, I have my doubts as to the authenticity of this supposed “25 year old Iraqi woman in Baghdad”, however, I’ll leave that to the reader’s opinion.

Browsing through some of the writer’s posts, it’s obvious this person has a grudge. A grudge against the United States, a grudge against President Bush, a grudge against the possiblity of freedom in her country, and a grudge against the terrible inconveniences involved in removing the dictator that killed millions of her countrymen, robbed the country blind, and ruled through threat of violence and death.

Things are bad in Iraq. Many of the comforts that the ruling class enjoyed under Sadam Hussein are not available. Many people are injured and killed while the insurgents work to prevent the progress of a free, democratic government. No one will claim that things are materialistically “better” now than before the regime was toppled, but anyone with the ability to see past their own selfish nose has to admit that the potential finally exists for things to be far better than were ever possible while in the grip of of an insane, egotistical, sadistic dictator.

This self-proclaimed voice of the “real” Iraq needs to break out of her little bubble world and look around. If her concerns are genuine, then she now has the opportunity to help create a better world for herself and her people. That opportunity was brought into being through the actions of the people she so despises. It’s easy to sit back and echo the rhetoric of liberals. It’s easy to see current hardship and compare it to the relatively sweet life you had while your “government” was killing people en masse and burying them in secret mass graves. The true test of courage is standing up and becoming part of the process that provides the opportunity for that “good life” for everyone.

Fortunately for her, the United States’ objectives in Iraq include all citizens of that country, not just the ones willing to work for it.

I certainly hope she has the moral fiber to get off her self-righteous ass and vote today.
